| Hello? Can you read this? Is anyone else out there? I don't know what happened. I woke up, and everything was... like this. Frozen and weird and just... really fucked up. More fucked up than all that shit from before. I don't even know how I ended up in Tokyo. Fuck. Is there anyone here? I don't know if you use the Internet wherever you're from, but where I'm from, we can use computers to communicate. Kind of like a bulletin board, but hosted in virtual space… not the supermarket. I basically set up a new network from scratch, since I can't reach any satellites or computer networks anywhere else in the world. Nothing will connect. Usenet, Telnet... the Internet... Nothing. Probably has something to do with the fact that time, as we know it, seems to have just... stopped? Anyway, if anyone’s out there… you can use this networked journal system I created to post messages, chat, get information, whatever you want, really. I set it up so you can send private messages to each-other, but it's not super secure. I wouldn't send any sensitive information over the network. I don't know who else might be reading. My name's Vincenzo. I hope someone is out there. I really don't want to be the only person left alive on Earth. |

The board is run by Vincenzo, and enables you to post, message board style as you would in a normal LJ or other online community. Your character has found a computer, has somehow been able to find and log into the community, has created an account and uploaded user-pics, and can reveal what they choose to reveal on the journals. Even characters without any knowledge of technology will have the ability to simply log on and use the 'net', because it's a great way to encourage player activity and plot. Simply write your character as finding a laptop from some businessman or college kid, turning it on deliberately or accidentally, and you're good to go. The internet will automatically open to the message board when you try to connect. Please note, the internet as we know it, Wikipedia, Google, everything else... is not accessable. You can't check your hotmail. Also be aware that aside fromVincenzo the sysadmin, there is another NPC, Romero, who is very skilled hacker. He will have periodical access to your private conversations. He may pop in to chat with you and your co-plotters, or he may just copy-post the contents for everyone to see if he thinks it's particularly interesting and it will amuse him. We have created a mathematical system based on your character's user-name, the calendar, and the date to establish Romero's fickle hacking whims, so it isn't random and we aren't targeting YOUR character specifically. Please bear in mind your private posts will have about a 15% chance of being posted for everyone to see, if he's so inclined. But, don't worry too much about it. Even if you qualify, he won't always post secrets. Chances are, he just wants to chat, because he's here too, and confused like everyone else. But please be aware that there is always the possibility he'll fuck you over for his amusement. Nothing is 100% secret. If you MUST discuss a secret, do NOT post it in your journals, meet the other character in closed off area. |

If you would like to contribute to any of the possible plot threads relating to the journal and computer use, please contact the mods. Even if your character is robot from the future or the world's best genius hacker, you must clear anything potentially disruptive with the mods or your character could be shut off from the network. However, we like plot, so don't worry :) Just ask and we'll see what we can do! |
